A Blood Red Biography ...

Following on from a well received set at Electric Picnic Festival ‘07, The Blood Red Mountain Band are about to release their Debut EP and are busy planning a national tour to take place this summer. The band have come along way from their previous carnation as punk outfit Negative Inverse. Though it was there that front-man Mark Flynn and bass player Joeby Browne first showed promise by reaching the finals of the IMRO Showcase.

Formed in 2005, The Blood Red Mountain Band draw influence everywhere from Ryan Adams to Bonnie Prince Billy and have been described as ‘Arcade Fire meets Bob Dylan’. The eclectic line-up features no less than eight members, playing a vast array of instruments; Mark Flynn (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Martina Leonard (vocals, glockenspiel, melodica), Tracy O’Grady (fiddle), Joeby Browne (bass & backing vocals), Ian Devlin (lead guitar, charango, mandolin), Dave Keegan (drums), and the recent additions of Brian Duggan (Trumpet) and Lindy-Sue Dredge (Accordian).

The result is what Eamon Miller of Metro Newspaper describes as ‘an enticing home-brew of traditional music and left-field rock’, while Brian Boyd (Evening Herald), listing the band’s recent Saturday night headliner in Whelans in the ‘Top Ten Things to Do’, describes TBRMB as ‘remarkable’ and ‘top notch’.

The Blood Red Mountain Band have featured at numerous high profile Irish festivals including Electric Picnic 07, Festival of World Cultures 06, & the Launch of Galway Arts Festival 07. They have also gained national media coverage, such as playing live on radio (Today FM, Newstalk FM and Phantom FM) and recommendations in the Evening Herald and METRO, and after working with producer Karl Odlum (The Frames, Gemma Hayes, Fionn Regan), their debut EP is due for independent release on May 30th 2008.
